BASF launches engineering plastics that meet EU food standards

The EU's GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standard for plastic materials that come into direct contact with food became effective in August 2008. This regulation sets higher requirements for quality assurance and process control in the production of food-contact plastics. In response, BASF is introducing a range of new engineering plastics specifically designed for the food industry in Europe. These include Ultramid® A3K FC (unreinforced) and Ultramid A3EG6 FC PA 6.6, as well as composite PBT materials. Among them are two versions of Ultradur® B4520 FC (non-reinforced) and Ultradur B4300 G6 FC (glass-reinforced), along with three newly introduced Ultradur FC base polymers. The term "FC" stands for "Food Contact," indicating compliance with food safety regulations. BASF has a long history of producing plastics for the food industry, consistently maintaining high safety and quality standards. With the new GMP regulations, manufacturers must now be even more rigorous in material selection, production processes, and quality control. To support its customers, BASF will provide necessary EU certifications for all products intended for food contact.
