Because of the expansion from the 2nd floor to the 5th floor, the street houses were jokingly referred to as “European Castle” and “City of the Air” by netizens. Even many netizens took a camera and went to see their true colors.

See the dangerous building alone

Yesterday afternoon, the reporter traced the whereabouts of the "castle" based on the clues left by netizens.

The “Castle” is located near the Shaying Road, Zhangzhou Road, Hongkou District, a hundred meters away from the famous 1933 old farmhouse. The five-storey building is three stories taller than the surrounding houses. It looks like a building block taken from afar. It looks top-heavy. The top floor is a European style building, with a small spire and floor-to-ceiling windows. The roof height is higher than the overhead line. Looking to the side, the width of the house is more than 5 meters, and there are obvious stitching marks on the wall. The reporter noticed that part of the floor has been vacated, and another side of the wall is peeling off and it looks like it is teetering.

The ground floor of this small building is rented to a small restaurant for the Northeast cuisine. The second floor is the kitchen of the hotel. The third floor and the fourth floor are living people. Looking up, there is a sign hanging on the wall of the fifth floor, which reads “×× lofts”. There is also a telephone number from time to time with pigeons flying around the roof. The residents nearby reported that the tenant stamped the top floor in order to raise pigeons. It was built in the 1970s and 1980s and was expanded more than 10 years ago.

Hope to reform as soon as possible

The reporter dialed the phone in the loft and could not be reached. Afterwards, it was learned from the Jiangxia Neighborhood Committee to which it belongs that the building was a private house that had existed for decades and was a problem left over from history. Not long ago, the Jiaxing Road Sub-district Urban Management Branch had come to investigate and collect evidence. The public hopes that the relevant departments can take measures to rectify such dangerous "castle in the air" as soon as possible.
