Identifying whether an asset has any defects is the first and most crucial step in any inspection. This was the main challenge we set out to solve when we founded Flyability.

To address this, we developed the Elios drone—a compact, caged drone designed specifically for indoor use. The Elios allows inspectors to safely enter confined spaces and collect visual data without putting themselves at risk.

This innovation marked a turning point in internal inspection technology, enabling real-time remote access to hard-to-reach areas and helping inspectors quickly determine if any defects exist.

Question 2: What are the dimensions of the defect?

Once a defect is identified, the next step is to understand its size and severity. This information is vital for maintenance teams to decide on the appropriate course of action—whether to repair, monitor, or inspect further.

That’s why, after launching the Elios, our next focus was on improving how inspectors could measure and document the size of defects. We worked closely with field inspectors to understand their needs and developed the Elios 2 with enhanced features to support accurate measurements and detailed documentation.

Some of the key improvements in the Elios 2 include:

• 2D Measurements – Accurate measurements with ±10% precision up to ±5mm.
• Photogrammetric Models – Create 3D models from video footage for better defect analysis.
• Enhanced Lighting – Up to 10,000 Lumens for improved visibility and texture detection.
• 4K Video Quality – High-resolution footage for detecting even the smallest cracks and fissures.

Question 3: Where are the defects located in the asset?

Locating a defect within an asset is often the most challenging part of the inspection process. Without proper positioning systems like GPS, it can be difficult to pinpoint exactly where a defect is located, especially in environments with uniform surfaces such as tanks or chimneys.

That’s why we developed Inspector 3.0, a powerful software tool that helps inspectors create 3D models of the inspected area, allowing them to accurately map and locate defects.

With Inspector 3.0, inspectors gain:

• Faster processing – Results in 20–40 minutes depending on data volume.
• Easy integration – No need for additional flight paths or complex setups.
