Arlington Heights firefighters were dispatched to 2150 S. Goebberts Road on Wednesday afternoon after reports of smoke in the hallway of a two-story apartment complex, which measures approximately 45 by 200 feet. As units made their way to the scene, the police department reported thick black smoke coming from one of the units, prompting the alarm to be upgraded to a Code 4—indicating a working fire.
Upon arrival, the first unit, Arlington Heights Engine 3, initially saw no visible signs of fire from the direction they approached. However, once inside the building, they quickly detected smoke and immediately pulled a pre-connected hose line. Shortly after, Mt. Prospect Engine 12 arrived and helped secure a water supply before entering the structure.
The fire was confined to a single unit and was quickly brought under control, preventing it from spreading further. Firefighters worked efficiently to ensure the area was safe and to assess the cause of the incident.
Larry Shapiro, a local photographer, arrived toward the end of the operation and captured a few images of the scene. Additional photos are available in a gallery linked here.
