Arlington Heights firefighters were dispatched to 2150 S. Goebberts Road on Wednesday afternoon after reports of smoke in the hallway of a two-story apartment building, approximately 45 feet wide by 200 feet long. As units made their way to the scene, the police department reported black smoke coming from one of the units, prompting the alarm to be upgraded to a Code 4 — indicating a working fire. Despite the first arriving unit, Arlington Heights Engine 3, reporting no visible signs of fire from their approach, they encountered smoke upon entering the building and immediately pulled a pre-connected line. Mt. Prospect Engine 12 arrived next and helped secure a water supply before entering the structure. The fire was quickly contained to a single unit and extinguished with minimal damage.
