In today's fast-paced entertainment and gaming industry, studios and developers are under constant pressure to deliver high-quality content quickly. The demand for more stories, games, and immersive experiences is growing, but with tighter budgets and smaller teams. In the age of streaming, audiences can easily switch to another app or platform, making it essential for creators to stay ahead of the curve.
To succeed in this competitive landscape, creativity must be paired with efficiency. Cloud-based solutions are becoming a game-changer, enabling seamless collaboration, faster workflows, and better project management across global teams. At Autodesk, we're dedicated to empowering our customers with tools that help them reach their full potential.
At Autodesk University 2022, we’re excited to share how we're transforming the way creative professionals work. Our goal is to make collaboration more intuitive, open, and accessible—no matter where you are or what tools you use.
**Unifying the Production Pipeline in the Cloud**
The complexity of modern media production—spanning film, TV, and video games—makes collaboration a major challenge. With hundreds of people working across multiple locations, thousands of shots, and millions of versions, managing data becomes a massive task. That’s why we’re introducing Autodesk Flow, a new cloud platform designed to bring people and data together across the entire production pipeline.
By centralizing asset management, Autodesk Flow allows teams to maintain continuity, track changes, and collaborate efficiently throughout the project lifecycle. This ensures that every team member has access to the latest information, reducing errors and saving time.
One example of this transformation is Moxion, a cloud-based platform that streamlines digital dailies. It allows raw footage from set to be reviewed instantly by anyone, anywhere, eliminating the need for physical transfers or repeated work. When paired with ShotGrid for project management, teams see real-time improvements in efficiency and communication.
Take Amazon Studios, for instance. As a leading producer of original content for Prime Video, they’ve embraced cloud-based tools like Moxion and ShotGrid to build a “6th generation studio.†By moving many aspects of production to the cloud, they’ve created a more connected and efficient workflow, allowing on-set data to flow seamlessly into post-production.
Eric Iverson, Director of Product Strategy at Amazon Studios, said, “These tools are helping us deliver epic narratives with greater speed and precision. Managing large-scale projects requires not just talent, but the right technology to keep everything running smoothly.â€
**Driving the Industry Forward with Open Standards**
A flexible cloud environment fosters better collaboration and reduces friction in production workflows. That’s why Autodesk, along with other industry leaders, is investing heavily in open standards that promote interoperability and data sharing.
We’re open-sourcing key technologies like RV, which enables artists to review high-resolution images and sequences in real time. Alongside partners like Sony and DNEG, we’re supporting the Open Review Initiative—a new project within the Academy Software Foundation aimed at creating a unified, open-source toolset for playback, review, and approval.
Additionally, we’re advancing technologies such as Bifrost for Maya USD integration, MaterialX, Open Color IO, gITF, and Open Timeline IO. These efforts are helping shift the industry from closed, siloed systems to an open, collaborative ecosystem.
**Bringing the Power of Maya to More Artists, Everywhere**
Maya remains one of the most powerful tools in the world for 3D animation and visual effects. But we believe it should be accessible to more artists—not just those at big studios. That’s why we introduced Maya Creative, a more affordable version of Maya that offers flexible, pay-as-you-go access through Flex.
This model allows freelancers, small studios, and independent creators to tap into the same tools used by top Hollywood studios—without the long-term commitment. It helps reduce crunch time and makes it easier to scale teams as needed.
Whether you're a solo artist or part of a large production house, Maya Creative gives you the power to bring your vision to life. From concept to final render, the tools are there when you need them.
At Autodesk University 2022, we’re showcasing how these innovations are shaping the future of content creation. Join us to learn more about how we're helping the industry move forward—and how you can benefit from it too.
