South Elgin experienced a house fire on Thursday at 10N917 Gale Street in Elgin Township, Kane County. The blaze was reportedly caused by a bird's nest that caught fire and spread into the attic of the home. The weather was particularly harsh, with temperatures hovering around 15 degrees, but the wind made it feel like just 5 degrees. Despite the cold, firefighters worked quickly to bring the fire under control.
Scott Peterson captured several images from the scene after the flames were subdued. His photos provide a clear look at the damage and the efforts made by emergency responders.
According to preliminary reports from *The Courier-News*, firefighters arrived at the scene just after 9:30 a.m., called by the two residents of the home. Upon arrival, they found fire in a wall and a deep-seated fire in the attic, with flames visible through windows on both sides of the structure. The home had multiple attic units due to past remodeling, which allowed the fire to spread quickly among them.
The fire department received support from several neighboring departments, including Elgin, Pingree Grove, Elburn, Bartlett, Hanover Park, and West Dundee.
