South Elgin experienced a house fire on Thursday at 10N917 Gale Street in Elgin Township, Kane County. The blaze was reportedly caused by a bird’s nest that caught fire and spread into the attic of the home. The weather was particularly harsh, with temperatures hovering around 15 degrees Fahrenheit, but the wind made it feel like just 5 degrees.
Scott Peterson captured several photos from the scene after the fire was brought under control. The images show the extent of the damage and the efforts of firefighters working to contain the flames.
According to initial reports from The Courier-News, firefighters were called to the home just after 9:30 a.m. by the two residents. Upon arrival, they discovered fire in a wall and a deep-seated fire in the attic, with flames visible from both sides of the structure. The home had multiple attic units due to past remodeling, which contributed to the fire spreading quickly.
The fire department received mutual aid from several surrounding departments, including Elgin, Pingree Grove, Elburn, Bartlett, Hanover Park, and West Dundee.
The fire was eventually brought under control, though the damage to the home was significant. Residents were displaced, and investigators are now looking into the cause of the fire. For more details, you can read the full article from The Courier-News [here](#).
