Ningbo Far East Chemical Ammonia Urea Waste Liquid Treatment Device Solve Environmental Pollution Problems
In recent years, nitrogen fertilizer companies located near major water systems across the country have been under pressure due to excessive liquid discharge, leading to production suspensions and required environmental rectifications. Recently, it was reported that Ningbo Yuandong Chemical Technology Co., Ltd. has independently developed an advanced urea waste liquid treatment system. This innovative technology addresses a long-standing challenge faced by many nitrogen fertilizer plants: meeting strict wastewater discharge standards and reducing environmental pollution. The new system is expected to significantly benefit small and medium-sized nitrogen fertilizer enterprises.
The technology employs deep hydrolysis of condensate from the urea production process, effectively lowering the ammonia (NH₃) and urea (Ur) content in the discharge solution to below 5×10â»â¶. It has already been implemented at several key facilities, including Shandong Yankuang Chemical Co., Ltd., Gansu Liuhua (Group) Co., Ltd., and Shandong Ruixing Chemical Group Co., Ltd. Operational results have fully met design specifications, delivering both economic and environmental benefits.
It is worth noting that many urea plants built in the 1990s, with annual capacities ranging from 40,000 to 150,000 tons, were originally designed to treat process condensate using desorption towers. However, these systems often discharged residual solutions containing up to 0.07% ammonia and 1.1% urea—far exceeding acceptable limits. As production capacity has grown beyond original design values, the outdated equipment has struggled to keep up, leading to increased environmental impact and higher operational costs, which negatively affects corporate competitiveness.
To address this issue, Ningbo Yuandong Chemical Technology Co., Ltd. has successfully developed two proprietary technologies: medium-pressure and low-pressure hydrolysis for treating urea process condensate. These innovations have earned national invention patents and are now widely recognized for their efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
The low-pressure gas extraction and hydrolysis technology is especially suitable for urea plants that lack access to high-pressure steam. It integrates the hydrolysis and desorption towers into one unit, simplifying the process and minimizing disruption to existing systems. The technology recovers ammonia, COâ‚‚, and water in liquid form, returning them to the urea medium-pressure system, thereby reducing energy consumption and cold load. When applied to a 240,000-ton-per-year urea plant, the system can generate an additional 2.5 million yuan in annual profit, with a payback period of about two years.
Currently, five units of the deep hydrolysis system designed by Ningbo Far East Company are already in operation in China, with twelve more under construction. This growing adoption highlights the technology’s potential to transform the industry, making it more sustainable and economically viable.
