From the excavation to the scrapping of the mining roadway, the process of redistribution of surrounding rock stress caused by mining will be experienced, and the deformation of surrounding rock will continue to grow and change. Taking the return face of the working face affected by the mining of adjacent sections as an example, the deformation of the surrounding rock has to go through five stages:

(1) Roadway impacting stage

(2) The impact of the tunneling phase

(3) Mining impact stage

(4) Mining impact stability stage

(5) Secondary mining impact stage

See Table 6-1 for the general rule of the ratio of the speed of the top and bottom of the roadway in each impact stage.
