The first of the two LNG-powered rolling ships of the Crowley Marine series is currently being built at the VT Halter Marine shipyard. A few days ago, the construction of the ship reached an important time node, and three LNG fuel tanks were installed on the ship.

It is reported that each LNG fuel tank is 110 feet long, 20.6 feet in diameter and weighs 225 metric tons. Upon delivery, the ship's fuel will enable the ship to sail two rounds between Jacksonville and San Juan ports. The ship will be 219.5 meters long, 32.3 meters wide, 10 meters draught, and about 26,500 metric tons of deadweight. The main propulsion and auxiliary engines on board will be propelled with LNG fuel.

The two new vessels will be named "El Coquí" and "Taíno", designed by Wärtsilä Marine Design and Crowley's Jensen Maritime, and are expected to be delivered in the second and fourth quarters of 2017, respectively.
