**HANOI, September 28, 2017** – In a significant move towards modernizing Vietnam’s construction sector, the BIM Steering Committee under the Ministry of Construction (MOC) and Autodesk have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the nationwide adoption of Building Information Modeling (BIM) by 2021. This collaboration aims to streamline construction processes, improve efficiency, and ensure sustainable development through digital transformation. The Institute of Construction Economics (ICE), as the secretariat of the BIM Steering Committee, has partnered with Autodesk to promote BIM awareness and application across the construction and facility management sectors. This initiative aligns with Decision No. 2500/QĐ-TTg issued by the Prime Minister in December 2016, which outlines a strategic roadmap for integrating BIM into national infrastructure projects. Autodesk will contribute its global expertise in BIM implementation, drawing from successful experiences in various countries. Daniel Green, Autodesk’s APAC Director of Government Affairs, will join the steering committee as an expert advisor, offering insights and guidance to help shape Vietnam’s BIM framework. Led by Deputy Minister Le Quang Hung, the BIM Steering Committee includes representatives from key ministries such as Transport, Trade and Industry, Agriculture and Rural Development, and Planning and Investment. The group is tasked with overseeing the nationwide rollout of BIM standards and practices. “Vietnam’s construction industry stands to benefit immensely from BIM,” said Daniel Green. “With the right tools, training, and policies, BIM can transform how buildings are designed, constructed, and managed. Autodesk is committed to supporting Vietnam’s journey toward a more efficient and sustainable construction sector.” BIM enables architects, engineers, and construction professionals to create intelligent 3D models that enhance collaboration, reduce errors, and optimize building performance. With Autodesk’s support, the steering committee will focus on three main phases: **2017–2019: Awareness and Preparation** - Conduct surveys to assess current construction investment and building management practices. - Develop temporary BIM guidelines for pilot projects. - Create training materials and organize seminars to build BIM capacity among stakeholders. - Propose regulatory improvements aligned with BIM standards. **2018–2020: Pilot Implementation** - Apply BIM in at least 20 Class I or higher construction projects and 10 facility management projects. - Offer technical support to project teams facing challenges during BIM integration. - Monitor pilot projects to refine BIM practices and inform the final guideline. **2021 Onwards: Nationwide Rollout** - Based on evaluation results, the Ministry of Construction will issue comprehensive BIM guidelines for widespread use in construction and facility management. Autodesk, a global leader in design and engineering software, empowers creators across industries. From architecture and construction to manufacturing and media, its tools enable innovation and precision.
