SAN RAFAEL, Calif., Sept. 22, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) has introduced a new model coordination workflow that connects two of its most popular tools: Navisworks and BIM 360 Model Coordination. This integration is set to enhance the Autodesk Construction Cloud by allowing construction teams to manage the entire model coordination process—from clash detection to issue tracking—within a single platform. By combining the strengths of both tools, customers can improve the accuracy of construction documents, save time, reduce schedule risks, and minimize rework. The updated workflow enables users to automate clash detection directly in BIM 360 Model Coordination and create or assign issues from either Navisworks or BIM 360. This streamlines existing processes for Navisworks users and gives BIM 360 users more advanced capabilities for detailed clash detection and analysis in Navisworks. "Having an integrated workflow between Navisworks and BIM 360 allows all project stakeholders—from the field to the office—to participate in issue tracking and resolution throughout the project lifecycle," said Nick Bobbitt, VDC Manager at Barton Malow. "This makes model coordination a true team effort, giving access to those without experience in clash detection. It adds value for our clients by helping them understand the design and model development better." With this new workflow, more project partners can now engage in model coordination at any stage. Design and trade teams can perform real-time self-checks using automated clash detection, while BIM leaders can focus on major constructability issues and run specific tests in Navisworks. For instance, if a structural team uploads a model and detects a clash between a stairwell and a wall, they can quickly assign an issue to their team for review. The same model can then be opened in Navisworks for deeper analysis, where experts can check for larger issues like maintenance accessibility. "Addressing design issues before construction begins is key to avoiding costly delays and rework," said Sameer Merchant, head of product development at Autodesk Construction Solutions. "This integration creates a unified workflow within the Autodesk Construction Cloud, making it easier for teams to manage the entire model coordination process from one place. We’re helping construction professionals deliver better results from design through operations." The integration between Navisworks and BIM 360 Model Coordination is now available.
