Starting October 30th, 2015, Autodesk Subscription customers will be the first to experience a brand-new release of Autodesk Inventor. This upgrade introduces groundbreaking tools that revolutionize innovation, collaboration, and engineering practices, empowering users to create exceptional products. Many of these enhancements build on the impressive improvements introduced earlier this year in Autodesk Inventor 2016.
One standout feature is the newly integrated Shape Generator, which requires no additional products or services. By simply defining basic parameters such as the load capacity and support structure needed for your design, Inventor can now propose an optimized design strategy for the part. For instance, if you're looking to create a chair capable of supporting a 500-pound load while remaining lightweight and portable, this feature allows you to input those specifications, and Inventor will generate a recommended lightweight structure.

Simultaneously, ForceEffect Design brings the robust capabilities of ForceEffect directly into Inventor, enabling engineers to analyze static loading and kinematics within their designs. The ForceEffect iOS and Android apps have already gained popularity among over 1 million users due to their intuitive method for creating free body diagrams for mechanical models. Now, these functionalities extend to Inventor, eliminating any guesswork when setting up loads for simulations. Users can quickly establish a free body diagram and connect it to the sketches driving their 3D models.

Engineers collaborating with Printed Circuit Board (PCB) designers or needing to integrate PCBs into their product designs will find Inventor's new electromechanical design features particularly beneficial. Import options for Intermediate Data Format (IDF) files simplify synchronizing the PCB with mechanical drawings and aligning IDF data with 3D component libraries upon import.

In today's collaborative work environments, where multiple software tools are often involved, Inventor ensures data remains associative, regardless of the originating CAD system. If you receive a file from another CAD program, no worries—simply reference the file in an Inventor assembly and begin designing without the hassle of translation, geometry repair, or re-linking.
"We've crafted Inventor 2016 to serve as the core of an open and interconnected product development ecosystem," said Lance Grow, director of manufacturing product design at Autodesk. "This is a professional-grade solution spanning design and engineering all the way through manufacturing and beyond."
