Autodesk Workshop XR is an immersive design review environment tailored for the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry. It offers a more efficient and collaborative way to review 3D models and project data in real time, enabling teams to make better decisions and deliver more sustainable and profitable projects.
Launched at Autodesk University, this new tool connects directly with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), allowing AEC professionals to review designs from anywhere, at any time. This shared virtual experience helps teams catch errors early, reduce rework, and improve spatial understanding—all while working together in a unified digital space.
“Most building projects that go over budget do so because issues are discovered once construction has started,†said Nicolas Fonta, senior director and general manager of XR at Autodesk. “Workshop XR addresses these challenges by providing a seamless, real-time collaboration environment.â€
The platform integrates seamlessly with ACC, offering no-prep model loading, automatic data syncing, and real-time issue tracking. Teams can walk through 1:1 scale models, analyze complex details, and communicate effectively without the need for physical meetings. This not only saves time but also reduces costs and environmental impact.
Available on Meta Quest 2, Quest Pro, and Quest 3 headsets, Workshop XR is designed to be accessible and user-friendly, supporting both VR and desktop users. It’s part of Autodesk’s broader Design and Make Platform, which aims to connect teams, data, and workflows across the entire project lifecycle.
“With Workshop XR, teams can gain a shared understanding of how their designs will translate to the real world,†Fonta added. “This leads to better decision-making, less waste, and a more efficient workflow.â€
Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design, has already begun using an early version of Workshop XR. According to Jon Matalucci, BIM/VDC manager at Stantec, the tool has significantly improved collaboration among teams spread across 400 locations.
“Workshop XR brings our teams together in a realistic and approachable environment,†he said. “We’re able to work in parallel, share information, and solve problems faster than ever before.â€
With its dynamic workspace, easy model access, and full integration with ACC, Workshop XR is setting a new standard for AEC design reviews. Whether you're using a VR headset or a desktop, you can now engage with your projects in a more immersive and connected way.
