This morning, as the Buffalo Grove Fire Department was wrapping up their shift change, they received an urgent call regarding a house fire. Upon arriving at the scene located at 971 Belmar Lane, they encountered thick smoke billowing out from the attached garage. The quick response from neighboring departments—Long Grove, Palatine, Arlington Heights, and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods—provided additional support to Buffalo Grove. Fortunately, the fire was successfully confined to the garage area, preventing further spread. The initial response team included Buffalo Grove Engine 26, a 2010 Ferrara model, which quickly secured a hydrant across the street from the affected property. Meanwhile, Quint 27 was positioned in the ‘A’ Sector, ready with an aerial master stream in case the flames escalated. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of all involved teams, the fire was swiftly brought under control, limiting damage to the garage only. Photographs taken by Larry Shapiro show the intensity of the situation upon arrival, highlighting the significant amount of smoke visible even from outside the structure. It’s clear that the timely intervention made all the difference in containing the blaze before it could cause more extensive harm. While the incident caused concern, it serves as a reminder of how crucial it is for communities to work together during emergencies like these. As someone who has been following local updates closely, I must say there’s something reassuring about seeing such dedication from our first responders. Their swift action undoubtedly saved this home—and potentially much more—from severe damage. Let’s hope everyone involved remains safe and sound after such intense situations.
