This just in from the northwest side of Chicago: Chicago Fire Department Ambulance 23, one of the newer Wheeled Coach units, got into a bit of a fender bender earlier today. The incident occurred while the ambulance was en route to an EMS Plan 1 call near Harlem and Bryn Mawr. As reported by Dan McInerney, the collision involved a smaller SUV. Thankfully, it seems to have been a relatively minor accident, though it still left significant damage to the ambulance. Photos captured by Greg Reynolds and shared via the Radioman911.com Facebook page give us a closer look at the aftermath. The images show the extent of the damage, particularly noticeable on the front right side of the vehicle. You can also see an IDOT tow truck in action, carefully moving the damaged ambulance away from the intersection to clear the scene. It’s always concerning to hear about accidents involving emergency response vehicles, but thankfully no one appears to have been seriously hurt. For context, Chicago FD Ambulance 23 is a fairly recent addition to the fleet, a 2014 Ford E-450 equipped with a Wheeled Coach Type III body. As Dennis McGuire, Jr. noted in previous photos, it's a solid unit that unfortunately met an untimely fate here. It’s a reminder that even first responders need to be cautious on the road, especially when they’re racing to help others. Here’s hoping this doesn’t cause too much of a disruption for the crew or the neighborhood. Stay safe out there, everyone.
