I just got an interesting update from Steve Redick about a recent call he responded to. It happened last Sunday under pretty harsh conditions—freezing cold with snow everywhere. The fire broke out in a townhouse complex, and by the time he arrived, it seemed like the situation was mostly under control. He mentioned operating three different vehicles for the response: the brand-new Niles engine, a refurbished North Maine Pierce unit, and the soon-to-be-retired Niles quint. Attached are some photos he took of the scene. You can see the impressive Pierce Dash CF fire engine in action (Image 1). There’s also another shot of a similar Pierce model that was part of the fleet used that day (Image 2). In Image 3, you’ll notice yet another Pierce vehicle that played a role in the operation. For those interested in the technical side, Image 4 highlights the quint—a specialized piece of equipment designed to handle multiple firefighting tasks. Image 5 gives us a glimpse of the firefighters working hard at the scene, while Image 6 offers another angle of the Dash CF engine. It’s always fascinating to hear firsthand accounts of how these situations unfold, especially when they involve such a variety of equipment. The dedication of the firefighters is clear in every picture, and it’s humbling to see their efforts even in challenging weather. Steve’s images provide a vivid snapshot of what goes into managing a fire in adverse conditions, and it’s a reminder of the importance of having well-maintained resources ready to step in when needed.
