Hey everyone, This is John Tulipano reporting live from the scene of a house fire that broke out earlier today in West Chicago. I received the call around 11:05 AM on November 10, 2014, when the Fire Department was dispatched to a residence located at 28w649 Hickory Lane. As the first units arrived, Battalion 6 quickly reported visible smoke coming from the house. When I got here, it was clear the situation was escalating rapidly. Fire was already visible venting out through the second-floor windows along the mansard-style roofline. The structure itself is a two-story wooden building, roughly 50 by 50 feet, with a distinctive mansard roof extending from the second floor down to about three feet above the ground level. Firefighters initially entered through the front door, but within minutes, the flames had spread dramatically. Firefighters noticed it traveling downward into the interior of the mansard structure. There were reports of fire near the main entry point, prompting Command to order all personnel out of the building and transition to an exterior firefighting strategy. Unfortunately, the fire spread quickly to the left side, wrapping around the eastern and southern portions of the house. Despite their best efforts, firefighters found themselves constantly trying to catch up with the fire as they attempted to peel back and expose the mansard sections. It became evident that the fire was consistently ahead of them, making containment extremely challenging. The intense firefighting effort lasted approximately 45 minutes before the flames were brought under control. Initial reports suggest that the fire may have started due to someone sweating pipes indoors on the first floor. As of now, more photos are still being processed and will be shared shortly. I'll update this post once they're available. Stay tuned for further details and additional images. Best, John P.S.
