New programs aim to enhance tech skills among current workers and inspire a new, diverse generation to pursue careers in construction SAN FRANCISCO, July 20, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — In an effort to support the evolving needs of the construction industry, Autodesk has launched new initiatives designed to upskill current workers and attract a more diverse workforce. As part of its broader digital transformation strategy, the company is introducing two key programs: the Construction Master Class and the Autodesk Construction Cloud Learning Center. These resources are aimed at helping professionals develop essential digital skills, advance their careers, and better prepare for the future of construction. The construction industry is currently facing significant challenges, including a growing labor shortage and a widening digital skills gap. A recent survey by the Associated General Contractors of America and Autodesk revealed that 89% of U.S. construction firms struggle to fill hourly craft positions, while 86% have difficulty hiring salaried staff. Globally, similar issues persist, with many companies reporting that even though skilled labor exists, they lack the ability to attract the right talent. To address these challenges, Autodesk has introduced two new learning platforms. The Construction Master Class offers free online tutorials led by industry leaders, covering practical insights into workflows, project management, and career development. Meanwhile, the Autodesk Construction Cloud Learning Center provides accessible, multilingual courses on using Autodesk’s construction tools, such as Autodesk Build, Takeoff, and Docs. Since its launch in 2021, the Learning Center has seen over 42,000 enrollments from 134 countries. In addition to these programs, Autodesk has also launched other initiatives to support both current workers and future talent. This includes the Autodesk Membership Training Provider Program, which partners with trade unions and associations to provide digital training through Autodesk software. Another initiative, Make It Real, encourages young people to explore design thinking and real-world construction problems, offering funding and educational opportunities to support their growth. “The need for digitally skilled workers has never been greater,†said Ronald McGuire, program administrator at the International Training Institute. “With Autodesk’s learning resources, we can equip our members with the tools they need to succeed in today’s fast-evolving industry.†Allison Scott, director of customer experience and industry advocacy at Autodesk, added, “As the construction workforce ages, the demand for skilled workers will only increase. Our learning initiatives are helping companies stay competitive and adapt to the ongoing digital transformation.†Autodesk continues to lead the way in empowering innovators across industries. Through its comprehensive suite of tools, the company supports professionals in designing and building a better world—whether it's creating sustainable buildings, smarter products, or more engaging media experiences.
