Last night, the Buffalo Grove Fire Department responded to several calls reporting smoke billowing from a residence near the intersection of Evergreen Place and White Pine Road. Upon arrival, the initial responding unit noticed visible smoke and quickly upgraded the alarm, signaling an active fire. This triggered reinforcements from neighboring departments including Long Grove, Arlington Heights, Palatine, Prospect Heights, and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, alongside Buffalo Grove’s own resources.
Attached is an image captured by Larry Shapiro showing smoke escaping through the roof after ventilation efforts were carried out by the firefighting teams. The first responders entered the house to find it entirely filled with smoke. After ventilating the roof and windows, they located the source of the fire in a corner bedroom on the second floor and managed to contain it.
Another photograph taken by Shapiro shows firefighters preparing to inspect the basement following the venting of rear windows, ensuring there were no victims trapped below. Fortunately, a cat was discovered inside and promptly attended to by Buffalo Grove medics, who successfully revived it before handing it over for veterinary care. Tragically, multiple birds did not survive.
In a separate image, a Buffalo Grove lieutenant is seen holding the rescued cat, ready to transport it to safety. Another picture highlights the initial deployment of Tower 25, which arrived swiftly and established two water lines. However, the first hydrant proved unusable, necessitating the use of an alternative one to supply the tower ladder.
