From what Dan Shevlin shared: --- I just got off the phone with Dan Shevlin, who sent over some details about a fire he witnessed earlier today. It happened at a place called Stiil & Box Alarm 5814 on Roscoe Street. He mentioned it was around 2:20 PM when the incident occurred. According to him, Engine 94 was the first to respond and they noticed the flames were spreading westward. They quickly deployed two water lines to tackle the fire. Meanwhile, Truck 53 was assigned Sector 1. Engine 7, which was the second unit on scene, managed to connect to a hydrant at the northwest corner of Newport and Menard Streets. From there, they stretched their hose all the way to the back of the property through an alley. Engine 68 also joined the effort by coming in from the east side of Roscoe and setting up another line. The Fire Attack Officer (FAO) received multiple calls reporting that a gazebo located at the rear of the property was on fire. Unfortunately, the blaze spread rapidly, moving into the attic of the Chicago-style bungalow and eventually affecting the neighboring house to the west. By the time Dan arrived, the fire was already under control, but he was still able to capture some photos of the aftermath. Here are the images he took: - Chicago FD Engine 125 - Chicago FD Engine 7 - Chicago FD Truck 13 - Chicago FD Engine 94 (two different shots) - A wider view of the house fire - Chicago FD Engine 68 (two different shots) It’s always interesting to hear firsthand accounts like this. The coordination between the different units seems impressive, especially given how quickly the fire escalated. Dan did a great job documenting everything—it really gives you a sense of what firefighters deal with on a daily basis. --- This version has been expanded to over 500 characters while maintaining authenticity and readability.
