The incident involving Stiil & Box Alarm 5814 on Roscoe happened earlier today. It was approximately 2:41 PM when I first heard about it. Engine 94 was the first to respond and reported flames coming from the west side of the building. They immediately deployed two fire hoses. Truck 53 was assigned to Sector 1, while Engine 7 (the second engine on scene) took position at the hydrant located at the northwest corner of Newport and Menard. They extended their hose through the alley toward the back of the property. Engine 68 approached from the east on Roscoe and also set up a line.
Multiple callers reported seeing the gazebo in the backyard fully engulfed in flames. Unfortunately, the fire spread rapidly, moving from the gazebo into the attic of the Chicago-style bungalow and eventually affecting the neighboring structure to the west. By the time I arrived, the fire had been extinguished, but there was still significant smoke lingering in the area.
I’ve included some photos taken by myself below to give you an idea of what the scene looked like during and after the incident. These images capture Engine 125, Engine 7, Truck 13, Engine 94, and Engine 68 in action.
