Today, Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta announced a new collaboration with Rümi and its associated brands, ATCOenergy and Blue Flame Kitchen, to launch an Affordable Home Refurbishment Program. This initiative plays a key role in Habitat for Humanity’s mission to provide affordable home ownership opportunities. By renovating homes to meet design and energy efficiency standards, the program ensures that all homes are in excellent condition when they become available to new Habitat homeowners.
This partnership will not only enhance the refurbishment process but also bring additional resources to the table. Rümi will contribute essential services such as locksmithing, carpet cleaning, duct cleaning, and window washing. Additionally, ATCOenergy will offer free energy for six months to up to ten families annually who purchase refurbished homes, while Blue Flame Kitchen will provide welcome meals. The Rümi team will also participate in a Build Day to assist in constructing new affordable homes in Calgary.
Marshall Wilmot, President of Rümi, expressed, "At Rümi, our goal is to simplify life for people who want to love where they live. Supporting affordable housing is vital to fostering strong communities." He added, "From keeping homes warm during winter to providing nutritious meals, we're honored to partner with Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta."
Currently, 11% of Albertans face challenges finding adequate, suitable, and affordable housing. Through Habitat's efforts, families can achieve long-term stability and independence. Gerrad Oishi, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta, stated, "Rümi’s contributions are invaluable to our program, helping us strengthen our commitment to affordable housing across Southern Alberta."
Annually, Habitat assists over 20 families in purchasing affordable homes. Last year, eight families acquired refurbished homes, and this year, ten families are expected to do the same. Affordable housing has a profound effect on families and communities. Habitat homeowners often experience reduced housing-related stress, improved academic performance among children, and stronger community ties after moving into their new homes.
Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta is a non-profit organization focused on bringing people together to empower families through affordable home ownership. With support from sponsors, donors, and volunteers, they have worked with over 300 families since 1990, impacting more than 1,000 children. Learn more at www.habitatsouthernab.ca.
