Habitat for Humanity Partners With Rümi

Calgary, AB – Today, Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta announced a fresh collaboration with Rümi and its associated brands, ATCOenergy and Blue Flame Kitchen, to launch a brand-new Affordable Home Refurbishment Program. This initiative underscores Habitat for Humanity's commitment to ensuring that every home sold back to them meets specific design and energy-efficiency standards, thus maintaining a robust and sustainable affordable housing program. The partnership with Rümi will significantly boost these efforts by incorporating additional financial contributions as well as vital in-kind services.

The in-kind services provided by Rümi include locksmith services, professional carpet and duct cleaning, window washing, six months of free energy from ATCOenergy for up to ten families annually who purchase refurbished homes, and welcome meals prepared by Blue Flame Kitchen. Additionally, the Rümi team will participate in a Team Build Day to assist in constructing new affordable homes right here in Calgary.

In Alberta, 11% of residents struggle with core housing needs, spending over 30% of their income just to secure decent, appropriate, and affordable housing. Each Habitat home—whether newly built or refurbished—plays a pivotal role in empowering families through stable, low-cost ownership. These homes contribute to long-term family strength, stability, and independence.

Every year, Habitat supports over 20 families in purchasing affordable homes. Last year, eight families acquired refurbished homes, while this year, ten families are anticipated to do the same. Affordable housing makes a lasting difference not only for individual families but also for entire communities. Habitat homeowners consistently report reduced housing-related stress, improved academic performance among their children, and enhanced social connections since moving into their Habitat homes.
