The fire department from Northbrook, Wheeling, Prospect Heights, Glenview, and Deerfield responded to a residential fire at 4085 Evergreen Lane, located in an unincorporated area near Sanders Road and the I294 tollway. The emergency call came in just after midnight on April 8, 2022, reporting smoke inside the house and overheated walls following the use of the fireplace by the homeowner. When firefighters arrived, two occupants were already outside, but additional help was needed as the RED Center informed responders about a disabled individual who couldn't evacuate themselves. Northbrook Engine 10 arrived to find visible smoke, and the crew from Ambulance 10 quickly assisted in getting a wheelchair-bound resident out safely. The fire had spread to the exterior of the home, but it was swiftly tackled by firefighters from Prospect Heights Engine 39. Unfortunately, there are no hydrants in this subdivision, so water had to be supplied via a hoseline stretched from a hydrant at the entrance off Sanders Road to Northbrook Squad 11. From there, Squad 11 pumped the water directly to Engine 10 for firefighting operations. Attached are some images taken by Larry Shapiro, providing a glimpse of the scene.
