Firefighters from several nearby towns—Northbrook, Wheeling, Prospect Heights, Glenview, and Deerfield—responded to a house fire early on April 8, 2022, at 4085 Evergreen Lane. This location is in an unincorporated area close to Sanders Road and the I294 tollway. The emergency call came in shortly after midnight, reporting smoke inside the residence and walls that felt unusually warm after the homeowner had used the fireplace. Both occupants were safely evacuated as firefighters arrived, but additional help was needed for a wheelchair-bound resident who couldn't leave the house on their own. Northbrook Engine 10 was the first to report visible smoke upon arrival, and the crew from Ambulance 10 quickly assisted in getting the disabled resident out.
Outside, there was noticeable fire on the structure’s exterior, which firefighters from Prospect Heights Engine 39 managed to extinguish. Unfortunately, there are no hydrants in this subdivision, so water had to be transported via a supply line drawn from a hydrant located at the entrance off Sanders Road. This line fed into Northbrook Squad 11, which then relayed the water to Engine 10 to continue the firefighting efforts.
